Esta edición especial incluye: un sistema de contraseñas, un mundo extra, más zonas ocultas, un arma nueva, más de 1000 cuadros de imágenes animadas adicionales. Banda sonora completamente nueva y de la calidad de un CD y finales completamente diferentes en dos de los mundos. En resumen, todas las ideas súper molonas de Shiny que no se pudieron incluir en las versiones en cartucho aparecen en esta edición especial.

Nuestro protagonista, Ecco (un joven delfín Mular) presencia el secuestro de su manada sin poder hacer nada. Comienza entonces una persecución a través del tiempo en su búsqueda, dando inicio así a la aventura.

Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future vuelve a Dreamcast después de varios años de ausencia. En un futuro lejano, los delfines son los guardianes del planeta Tierra, desafortunadamente, una amenaza extraterrestre puede destruirlo.
